All About Puebla, Tehuacan and its Surroundings

Puebla is a city rich with History. Its Spanish colonial architecture gives a feeling of times past and pleases the eye with its fine lines and decorative trim adorning the buildings and magnificent churches. Puebla is also well known for its textile industries. The bright colors of the woven textiles are unique to Puebla and recognized around the world. Home to more then 1.8 million people, Puebla boasts an altitude of 2160 meters. (Pictures of Puebla) The famous Battle of Puebla took place in 1862, when the French invaded with more then 8000 soldiers and was met by a Mexican army of 4500 men. The Battle of Puebla was a victory for Mexico and is still hugely celebrated internationally. Mexico's war with France was lost in 1864 when 30,000 French reinforcements occupied Mexico City, but in 1867 Benito Juarez overthrew the French empire restoring the republic and destroying the French dream of ruling Mexico and Maximilian.  

Although Tehuacan seems like a small city it has a large history dating back to more then 8500 years B.C. The oldest fossilized corn in the world was found in Tehuacan as well as ancient pottery that dates back to the Purron phase (2300-1500 BC). Countless other archeological finds include evidence of human villages existing in the area more then 8000 years ago. Today the population of Tehuacan is around 255,000 people with its main industries being mining, factories, poultry and livestock production. Because of time restrictions the photos we have of Tehuacan are confined to the area of the Hotel Aldea Bazar, but we do have a VIDEO of Tehuacan featuring traditional music and attractions of the area.
